The hospitable glacier village of Grindelwald lies embedded in a varied, unspoilt Alpine landscape. The imposing, world-famous and ice-crowned mountain scenery with the Wetterhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is the stage set for Grindelwald.
In summer the region offers over 500 kilometers of marked walking trails. Hiking and mountain paths are available. Along the way, cosy mountain restaurants with a varied culinary offer invite you to enjoy, relax and linger. Many other summer activities are offered in the region such as: 160 kilometers of signalized mountain bike routes, paragliding, bungee jumping in the glacier gorge, scooter route, mountain cart route, "First" flyer, summer toboggan run, "First" cliff walk, pony rides and much more.
In winter, 45 cable cars and ski lifts in the Jungfrau region invite you to enjoy the snow. The three sub-regions Grindelwald-First, Kleine Scheidegg - Männlichen and Mürren - Schilthorn open up over 200 kilometers of slopes with fast and easy descents. With 100 kilometers of winter hiking trails, non-skiers also get their money's worth. The region is also a true paradise for sledging and tobogganing. From the Faulhorn there is a toboggan run all the way to Grindelwald. This route is the longest sled run in the Alps, at over 15 kilometers. Many other snow sport pleasures are offered in the Jungfrau Region such as snowshoe tours, cross-country skiing or ice sports.
Definitely a must see. A bit pricy (USD 200 per person) but worth it.

Book your tickets and seating reservation ahead of time!! You can either take the train from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg OR go to the “Terminal” station by bus or by car and take the “Eiger Express” (the new cable car) to Eiger glacier. I would recommend the later. From either Kleine Scheidegg or Eiger Glacier you then take the special train which takes you through the mountain of Eiger Northface all the way up to Jungfraujoch. If you are not comfortable booking this online you can book this e.g. directly at the train station in Grindelwald.
Also a must go. You should do the “Cliff walk” up on First – very spectacular. Also much adventure stuff on First such as the First Glider or Mountain Carts
https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/grindelwaldfirst/
There is a nice 2h hike to the most photographed lake in Europe “Bachalpsee”. https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/summer-sport/hiking/hiking-trail/first-bachalpsee-first/
Another nice hike is from First down to the middle station “Schreckfeld” https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/summer-sport/hiking/hiking-trail/first-schreckfeld/
You can reach First by the First cable car. Simply take the bus from the apartment directly to the lower station of the cable car or walk from the apartment down to the village and along the main road until you see the First station to your left (about 30 min walk).
The Pfingstegg is located opposite the First, on the other side of the valley. The gondola takes you up in a few minutes. A summer toboggan run awaits you at the top, as well as the "Zip-Line", a leisurely, relaxed ride through the treetops. Various hikes also start from the station.

From Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg. Easy hike without many differences in altitude with a permanent panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

From the “Bort” middle station of the First gondola lift down to Grindelwald in 2 hours. Nice, easy hike for children too.
Link
From Holenstein (middle station of Männlichen cable car) to Brandegg (restaurant with perfect Apple Fritters). From there hike down or take the train down to Grindelwald.

From Männlichen down to middle station. In the Männlichen mountain restaurant, be sure to get the map with the posts - then the kids will have a lot of fun hiking. Back down at the middle station take the cable car down to Grindelwald.

Take bus 128 from main station to bus stop “Oberer Gletscher – Hotel Wetterhorn” or go there by car. Hike up to the birds park and back down. Take the same bus back. About 1.5h hike. Great for kids.

Spectacular. Definitely take a jacket - it's cold in the gorge. But the path is flat, well secured and easy to walk on, even for children and older people.

What we can definitely recommend is the riding stables. This offers horseback riding for advanced riders and activities in the riding arena for children and beginners. The stud is small and absolutely down to earth. No frills... it's all about having a good time with and on the horses. If you are interested, let us know and we can put you in contact.
Grindelwald offers a small, very relaxed 9-hole short course - golfing against the backdrop of the Eiger north face - a real experience. No handicap necessary. Just stop by, borrow a club and start golfing. A round costs CHF 40.- / adult.
The tennis court is also public, very well maintained and offers a breathtaking natural backdrop. You can book and pay directly on site (Twint or cash) or via GotCourts. CHF 25.- per hour/court.
Rope and climbing park in the forest. A must with children who love climbing. 20 min drive, at the beginning of Interlaken.

45 lifts with 200 km of slopes - there is something for everyone. Whether on the First - this is the sunny side, fairly easy slopes, magnificent panorama - or on the Männlichen/Kleine Scheidegg - here it is shadier and icier until the end of February, but a larger area and more demanding. The First can easily be reached from Grindelwald with the Firstbahn - 6 minutes with the free ski bus from the apartment. Männlichen / Kleine Scheidegg can be reached with the Eiger Express or the Männlichen cable car from the "Terminal" - easily accessible by car (1500 parking spaces available) or with the ski bus in 10 minutes from the apartment with a change at Grindelwald train station.
An absolute “must do”: the cliff walk on the First – very spectacular. You can also go with ski boots.
Grindelwald is a toboggan paradise. https://grindelwald.swiss/en/winter/see-and-do/activities/sledging/
For example from the Bussalp down to the village. The bus ride up to 1800m is impressive. The bus leaves from the “Bahnhof” stop. It is always best to find out the exact times online at www.grindelwaldbus.ch.
Another great walk or toboggan run is from First to Schreckfeld or from Bort (middle station on the way to First) down to Grindelwald. The piece in between (Schreckfeld-Bort) is quite steep and only recommended for experienced sledders.
Our favorites for tobogganing are on the other side of the valley: either by train up to Alpiglen and then by toboggan down via Brandegg (definitely stop off and try the Öpfelchüechli - apple fritters) or from the Männlichen to the Holenstein middle station.
Grindelwald also offers more for winter hikes than can be done in a few weeks. https://grindelwald.swiss/en/winter/see-and-do/activities/winter-hiking/
Or how about snowshoeing? Grindelwald even offers something for cross-country skiers: A 3 km long trail - not necessarily for ambitious cross-country skiers, but nice for a change from the down hill skiing.
Or just a short walk in the fresh winter air from the apartment. We'll be happy to send you a description of our favorite walks.
